To ensure the financial security of employees if a company fails to meet its commitments, Workers Protection Insurance is provided as part of the employee visa issuance process. This insurance replaces the existing requirement of an AED 2,000 visa deposit and aligns with the Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratization’s (MOHRE) focus on safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of all employees in the UAE.

INSURANCE COVERAGE

RAKEZ has partnered with RAKINSURANCE to provide reliable, comprehensive and cost-effective Workers Protection Insurance coverage.

The coverage and cost of the insurance are linked to the employee's salary and include the following:

  • Due and Unpaid Salary
  • End of Service Gratuity
  • Repatriation Costs to home country
  • Repatriation of Mortal Remains to home country
  • Work-Related Injuries

RESOLVE EMPLOYMENT-RELATED ISSUES

To address an employee or employer dispute, complete the labor dispute form. This will be handled by the RAKEZ Labour Dispute Team, which is required ahead of proceeding with any insurance claims.

Steps for Processing a Labour Dispute Form

  • Step 1

    Raise a labour dispute by submitting a LABOUR DISPUTE FORM

  • Step 2

    RAKEZ will schedule a mediation session between the involved parties

  • Step 3

    Resolve the issue amicably or escalate it to court with an NOC for decision and insurance claim

Workers Protection Insurance provides coverage to safeguard employees in the event of an employer defaulting and not meeting its financial commitments to the employees. It encompasses protection for unpaid wages, end-of-service gratuity, repatriation costs, and work-related injuries.

Premiums and coverage vary depending on the employee's salary band and visa duration. It is imperative that the employer maintains updated information on salaries with RAKEZ via Portal 360. Additionally, it is the employer's responsibility to inform their workers about the insurance benefits and schedule, ensuring that employees are fully aware of the coverage provided and how it affects them.

Yes, Workers Protection Insurance is a mandatory part of the visa application process for all employees working at RAKEZ-registered companies.

Employers will no longer be required to provide visa deposits. Instead, insurance coverage will be provided as part of the visa process.

When applying for a new visa or renewing an existing visa, the insurance coverage will be included as a part of the visa process.

Your Certificate of Insurance is stored within your documents on Portal 360. As an employee, you are encouraged to contact your HRO or PRO to collect your certificate.

RAKEZ has partnered with RAKINSURANCE as the reliable insurance provider for Workers Protection Insurance and to ensure cost-effective coverage.

Employees submit a Labor Dispute online through the RAKEZ website or in person at RAKEZ Labour Dispute Office located at RAKEZ Service Centre – Al Hamra.

If mediation fails to facilitate an amicable resolution between the employee and the employer, an NOC will be issued allowing the employee to escalate their case to the United Arab Emirates Labor Courts.

The cost of the insurance will be included as part of visa application fees replacing the regular AED 2,000 security deposit. The cost and coverage limits are based on the salary earned by the employee.

NOTE: It is important that if your employee’s salary changes, you update this through the Portal 360. This will ensure correct coverage. If the salary moves into a higher salary band, a pro-rated charge will be required.

The insurance will be provided as part of a new visa application or upon visa renewal.

Yes, the insurance provides coverage for work-related injuries, including those occurring in hazardous conditions.

Upon visa renewal, where the insurance is included and RAKEZ is holding a visa deposit:

  • For companies where the average deposit per employee is AED 2,000 or more, deposits will be issued automatically. The refund will be processed to the customer’s e-Wallet for future use.
  • For companies with an average deposit per employee of less than AED 2,000, refunds will begin automatically once the average deposit per employee reaches AED 2,000.

It is important to note that any outstanding balances will be deducted from the deposit before the refund is processed.
