THE BEGINNING

Second Life RO was founded by a group of five partners bringing together over 125 years of combined experience in the water treatment industry. Their journey began with a clear objective: to challenge the traditional linear lifecycle of reverse osmosis membranes and introduce a more sustainable, circular alternative.

Collaborating with global partners and third-party laboratories, the company conducted more than five years of intensive research and development, resulting in a proprietary chemical regeneration process capable of restoring used membranes to near-new performance standards.

Establishing operations in RAKEZ marked a strategic step in bringing this innovation to market. The setup enabled the company to operate both trading and manufacturing entities within a single ecosystem, supporting its vision for scalable industrial growth. Today, Second Life RO operates a specialised facility with an annual capacity of 11,000 membranes, serving clients across the GCC, North Africa, Europe, the USA, and Australia.

Second Life RO’s success is built on its ability to combine advanced chemical engineering with practical industrial application. Unlike conventional cleaning methods, the company’s proprietary regeneration process allows for the modification of membrane performance characteristics, including permeability and salt rejection, enabling customised solutions for complex industrial use cases.

A key milestone in the company’s growth has been the successful deployment of regenerated membranes in high-performance environments such as semiconductor facilities and large-scale wastewater treatment plants. These sectors demand exceptional reliability and precision, and Second Life RO has consistently demonstrated that its regenerated membranes can perform on par with new products while delivering 30–50% cost savings.

Another defining achievement has been the launch of the RO Reuse Rewards Program, which incentivises major utilities and industrial operators to redirect used membranes into a circular regeneration cycle. Through partnerships with leading organisations, the company has successfully diverted thousands of membranes from landfill, reinforcing its position as a sustainability-driven industrial partner.

To date, Second Life RO has processed over 10,000 membranes, preventing approximately 150 tons of plastic waste and significantly reducing carbon emissions. This combination of measurable environmental impact and strong commercial value continues to differentiate the company in a highly competitive global market.

THE FUTURE

Looking ahead, Second Life RO is focused on expanding its footprint across key regional markets, with plans to establish a joint venture in Saudi Arabia to meet growing demand for sustainable water treatment solutions.

The company is also advancing its innovation pipeline, including the development of next-generation membranes designed to address complex industrial water streams, as well as initiatives to repurpose non-recoverable materials through waste-to-energy solutions.

As part of its long-term strategy, Second Life RO is exploring entry into the voluntary carbon credit market by 2029, leveraging the significant CO2 reductions generated through its operations.
