THE BEGINNING

Glass Technology FZ LLC represents the evolution of more than 35 years of glass innovation. Originating in Germany in 1987 and later expanding operations to Ukraine, the company became a key European supplier of low-iron solar glass. With geo-political tensions disrupting production, the team turned to Ras Al Khaimah to build a new hub that blends European precision with Middle Eastern opportunity.

The new RAKEZ-based facility, launching in January 2026, will leverage proprietary water-based sol-gel coating technology – a breakthrough that cuts energy use by up to 20% while delivering superior glass performance.

“We’re not just building a factory – we’re building a foundation for sustainable energy independence and industrial excellence.”

SUCCESS STORY

RAKEZ’s tailored industrial ecosystem played a crucial role in transforming Glass Technology’s vision into reality. The authority provided streamlined setup support, suitable land with heavy infrastructure, and competitive energy rates – all essential for glass furnace operations.

“RAKEZ made every step seamless, from licensing to land allocation,” Schumacher notes. “Their understanding of industrial needs and their responsiveness gave us confidence to invest in Ras Al Khaimah.”

Beyond logistics and utilities, RAKEZ’s proximity to Saqr Port ensures efficient global shipping, while direct access to the GCC highway network allows 1–2-day deliveries to Saudi Arabia – a major solar market. The company’s production will also serve India, Europe, and the USA.

By combining technology, strategic location, and operational excellence, Glass Technology FZ LLC is set to strengthen Ras Al Khaimah’s position as a rising hub for renewable energy materials.

THE FUTURE

With operations beginning in early 2026, Glass Technology’s next phase is already in motion. The company plans to double capacity to 850 tons/day by 2027, focusing on 2mm bifacial glass, the fastest-growing product in solar energy manufacturing.

Its long-term goals include establishing RAK as a regional R&D centre for solar glass innovation, achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2030, and powering solar installations equivalent to five million homes annually.

“Our journey with RAKEZ proves that when innovation meets the right environment, industries of the future can thrive here in the UAE,” Schumacher concluded.
